I like the idea of something being at the root of something good. This formula reminds me that the root of getting fit is for me to watch less TV. I’m not the fittest person in the world, and I never will be, perhaps that’s why I have put my fit in small letters rather than capitals.
I know that if I want to enjoy a long life where I can be an active part of my children’s lives (and hopefully in time, their children as they come along) keeping relatively fit will be an important element. This formula just sits there in my head and gently reminds me of that every time I go to slump down in the comfy chair in front of the TV.
This is also one of my favourite formulas because for me it’s really a ‘Macro’ formula. What I mean by that is once you get the concept you can keep the basic skeleton of the formula but you can change it in lots of different ways to say whatever it is that you are trying to get to the root of.
For example, I also know that there are other things that I could have put on the right hand side of the equals sign such as Chocolate, Internet Surfing, Takeaway Food but I picked the one that for me means that I might not be using a big portion of my time as productively as I could be.
For me, part of the fun of having a formula like this in my life, is that I love writing the left hand side and letting my friends fill in their right hand side. I have also had friends who put their own ‘roots’ into the formula. Some of the roots that I have seen are
Happiness, Success and Peaceful Sleep to name but a few.
Just as you can change what goes into the root you can of course change the ‘<’ to be a ‘>’ or even ‘<<’ and ‘>>’ if you feel really strongly about having less or more of something.
1.What root is important for you to try and achieve it?
2.To get to it what will you have to do more or less of?
3.What do you think is the root of happiness for you or for someone you love?
